The lake is fed by the Victoria Glacier. In 1882, when Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria, married the Governor General of Canada, he named the lake after her as a gesture of affection.
Surrounded on three sides by snowâcapped mountains, the lake receives glacial meltwater in summer. The minerals carried by the glacier give the lake its stunning turquoiseâgreen colorâso beautiful it captivates visitors for hours.
