  Your first stop on the slopes of Mount Olympus is Dion, a key site for the Macedonians. It was here that grand festivals were held in honor of Olympian Zeus and the Pierian Muses, featuring theatrical and gymnastic competitions known as "Olympia ta en Dion," which continued until around 100 B.C. Dion was also the place where Philip II celebrated the capture of Olynthos, the capital of the Chalkidian League, and where Alexander the Great sought the blessings of the king of the gods before embarking on his journey East.

  The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is one of Greece's largest and most significant museums, serving as the cultural hub of northern Greece. Visitors can explore its exceptional collections of ancient artifacts and immerse themselves in a variety of dynamic cultural activities.

• Ancient Amphipolis

  In 2014, Amphipolis became the epicenter of global excavations with the discovery of a massive tomb featuring two stunning Caryatids, sparking worldwide excitement. These statues, mirroring each other on either side of a marble doorway, have led to theories that the tomb belongs to a significant female figure from Alexander the Great’s era, such as Olympias, the wife of Philip II and mother of Alexander. Caryatids, sculpted female figures used as pillars in Greek and Roman architecture, stand over seven feet tall at the tomb’s entrance. With one arm outstretched as if guarding the tomb’s entrance, these figures heighten speculation that the tomb could also be the resting place of Roxana, Alexander’s wife.
