  • Day 4: SnĂŚfellsnes National Park Private Tour - 12 Hrs
  • On this private tour of Snaefellsnes National Park, you’ll leave Reykjavik behind and embark on a scenic journey to a peninsula that has fascinated visitors and locals alike for generations. On the way up to Snaefellsnes, you stop in an area known as BorgarfjĂśrður home to the village of Borgarnes. There will be a brief stop in Borgarnes for refreshments and to enjoy the local flavor of this delightful town. Local Wildlife Traveling further north and west, you’ll reach the SnĂŚfellsnes peninsula and will stop at Ytri-Tunga Farm. There you’ll get a chance to try and spot some of the local wildlife. The beach at Ytri-Tunga is home to a seal colony, as well as a variety of seabirds. Village Life Next up is a stop in one of the many villages that make their livelihood from the sea, idyllic Arnarstapi. Here, you’ll take a break for lunch, but before that, you can go for a walk and take in the extraordinary landscape, which includes a shoreline made of an abruptly plunging cliff.

  • Lifting Stones, Shipwreck & Literature The tour continues after lunch to DjĂşpalĂłnssandur, a peaceful, black-pebbled beach with gorgeous views of the sea. You will be feeled in on the stories behind the lifting stones found on the beach and as well as the remnants of a shipwreck. Looking inland from the beach is the scenic view of the glacier SnĂŚfellsjĂśkull. While stunning in its own right, this glacier was made famous when writer Jules Verne located his entrance to the center of the earth beneath this ice cape in his novel, “Journey to the Centre of the Earth.” The Stand-Alone Mountain From DjĂşpalĂłnssandur head over to the north coast of SnĂŚfellsnes peninsula to GrundarfjĂśrður fishing village. Stunning mountains surround GrundarfjĂśrður. Not only that, but it is also where you will find the peninsula’s most iconic and photographed landmark, the fascinatingly symmetrical mountain, Kirkjufell. It soars 1500 ft. up from the shoreline, cutting an imposing figure in the surrounding landscape

According to Viking legends, this lava field was where two Swedish "Berserks" made the first road in Iceland.
