Budakirkja
Búðakirkja â The Black Church of Búðir â Situated on the southern coast of the peninsula, the tiny hamlet of Búðir is home to the famous Black Church, Búðakirkja. Originally built in 1703 and reconstructed in 1987, the church stands alone amidst a field of lava rocks, exuding a peaceful, romantic charm. It features a historic graveyard, original bell, and chalice and is recognized as a listed building under the protection of the National Museum of Iceland. Deildartunguhver Thermal Spring

Next stop is Reykholt, one of the most important historical locations in Iceland. This was the home of Snorri Sturluson who was one of the most significant figures of the Middle Ages.

Hraunfossar
After leaving Reykholt you will see two waterfalls, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss. Hraunfossar is a series of rivulets that stream through the dark lava field. Barnafoss waterfall is a light blue waterfall that rushes through a narrow gorge.

Day 6: JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn Glacier Lagoon

Glacier Lagoon
JĂśkulsĂĄrlĂłn glacier lagoon â This remarkable 200-meter-deep glacial lagoon, fed by BreiðamerkurjĂśkullâan outlet glacier of Europeâs largest ice capâconstantly receives enormous icebergs throughout the year. These icebergs drift southward, filling the lagoon with floating ice.
During the summer months, you have the opportunity to book an exhilarating boat ride through the lagoon, offering an up-close view of these ancient ice formations. If you prefer to stay on land, a peaceful walk alongside the lagoon will allow you to admire the breathtaking scenery and the serene silence of Icelandic nature.

Diamond Beach
Diamond Beach â On the opposite side of the road, the icebergs from the lagoon are carried by tides into the Atlantic Ocean, where they are tossed back to shore. This striking black sand beach, known as Diamond Beach, is scattered with ice chunks in various shapes, glistening like diamonds under the sunlight. The vivid contrasts of the white and blue ice create a truly mesmerizing spectacle, perfect for capturing stunning photographs.
We will begin our journey back through the South. Along the route, additional stops can be made if the weather and time allow it.

Reynisfjara Beach
Reynisfjara, the Black Sand Beach â Heading further east, we visit the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, where the massive waves of the Atlantic meet the unique basalt columns in the cliffs above the sand. Rock pillars in the water and the cliffs of DĂ˝rhĂłlaey are seen in the distance. This area of the south is also a paradise for bird lovers, as Puffins and dozens of other unique species nest on top of these cliffs in the summertime from June to August.

Skogafoss
Skogafoss â Further east along the coast is SkĂłgafoss waterfall. SkĂłgafoss is an incredibly picturesque sight. Tucked in a little gorge, the river SkĂłgĂĄ tumbles down a 60-meter cliff before continuing down the landscape towards the Atlantic Ocean. Alongside the gorge, a staircase can take you to the shelf above the waterfall for stunning views. See if you can count your steps on your way up.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall
Seljalandsfoss â The adventure begins when our arrival is announced by the powerful theatrics of Seljalandsfoss. Bring a raincoat, and youâll be able to make the short hike behind the falls. The scene behind the waterfall and the trembling ground from the power of the falling water make for an automatic Instagram blockbuster!

Day 8: Golden Circle

Thingvellir National Park
We visit the place where the two tectonic plates, the North American and the Eurasian plate, are moving away from each other. Few places in the world offer a better and clearer view of this massive geographic activity. The biggest natural lake in Iceland is also located at Thingvellir National Park and hosts a great variety of fish and bird life. Thingvellir is also an important place for Icelandic national history. At Thingvellir Icelanders founded their parliament in 930 a.d. where the chieftains had their annual meeting every summer. The name âThingvellirâ translates to âParliament Plainsâ.

Geysir
The Geysir geothermal area hosts hundreds of colorful hot springs and two geysers, erupting hot springs. One is called âGeysirâ and name giving for all the geysers in the world. Today, however, it erupts very seldom. The other geyser is called âStrokkurâ and erupts every 5 minutes up to 40 meters.

Gullfoss Falls
The melting water from Iceland´s second biggest glacier, LangjĂśkull, falls into a deep canyon forming the majestic âGolden Fallsâ. On a sunny day, you can see the glacier LangjĂśkull in the distance and enjoy a rainbow in the mist of the waterfall, an Instagram blockbuster waiting to happen!

Bruarfoss Waterfall
We will also have a stop at the BrĂşarfoss Waterfall, unique for its vivid blue color, caused by the minerals in the water, and its multiple cascading streams that flow through a rugged landscape. Though a relatively off-the-beaten-path, the hike to BrĂşarfoss offers a peaceful escape and a chance to witness one of Iceland's most picturesque natural wonders.
